Classically good-looking need not apply!

It's a long time since my very wise aunt told me "never go for really good-looking blokes; they've never had to work on their personalities" Her advice has always stuck with me and the wisdom of her words has slapped me in the face a few times.

But tonight I realised that as a general rule I've been equally, if not more, attracted to small guys; like all women who are not skinny or easily placed within the given template for what constitutes an attractive woman, in general small men have to know who they are and have something other than looks to offer. They do not slot easily into the common template of what is supposedly attractive in a man.

I realise that there a lot of men out there who are not attracted to a woman who is not you're classic beauty but likewise there are men who deeply dislike the current dictate of extremely skinny women as the supposedly ideal woman.

Likewise some of the fairer sex, me included, don't idolise the supposedly extremely handsome, six foot guys with a fabulous six pack (to some of us a six pack contains beer and rightly so!!!). Some of us prefer guys who are maybe not as classically handsome but have a hell of a lot to offer - vive la difference! Small, bald, no six pack - whatever, the art of conversation; a lack of arrogance; and a winning smile is sooo much more attractive!

Oooo I couldn't agree more. Though I have "known" one or two "attractive" men and have enjoyed their cockiness in character there really wasn't enough to keep one there.

I've probably said it before about size. (Umm heaven knows what I'm talking about!!) A long term guy of mine was the most extravagantly built that it was humanly impossible and sadly in that department he thought he was god's gift and didn't do the right things with it.

You are right though... conversation, lovely attitude and a smile to melt your eyes... ahhhh :-)

I suppose I should stay out of this one! :-D

shameless fancier of all things 6 foot and muscled here....that's why i like american football players. That said could it be that less good looking men are better in other areas, you know what i mean? P.S A security warning, saying this page contains both secure and non secure items came up when i clicked to post a comment. Pippa

I'm with you on this one. I completely agree that many men don't like skinny women - most guys prefer something to hold on to and definitely curves over bones. That said, at my slimmest, a scrawny size 8 with bones hanging out, I got far more attention from guys than I do now at a 10/12...

I've never, ever been attracted to short men - something to do with needing to feel "protected", I think - but very few of my relationships have been with guys who would be considered to be classically handsome. Generally I find really good looking men a bit bland, and anyone who works that hard on their body is likely to be a bit boring.

Current ideal man - Alex Zane from Popworld. I love that indie boy thing he's got going on!

Steven: You will have no problem finding a lady, just a matter of finding the right one.
Pippa: You are shameless. Yes I've got the beta version and it's not bad but the comments thing is one bug in it, especially when I try to leave comments

Catgirl: don't know Alex Zane, must check him out!

Am v. excited as just realised he's in Edinburgh tomorrow night (along with Russel Brand, another love of mine) so perhaps all my dreams are about to come true. (Or rather, I can make all his dreams come true...)

Catgirl: LOL, maybe you will and all but can't believe that you fancy Russell Brand - yuck! We'll obviously never fall out about men!
