Answers on a postcard to Curly K please? We all know that the previous incumbent was Mr. Perry McCarthy but is the current Stig one famous driver or numerous individuals? If it is in fact numerous individuals I think I shall write to the BBC and ask if I can have a go - what better way to meet Clarkson, Hammond and May???

I have always suspected that it's Damon Hill.
See, I don't know anymore, starting to think that The Stig is in fact The Stigs and there is more than one person behind that helmet.
Just came 2 u via blankpaige. I agree her blog is great. U could have met "the stig" at this years motorshow at excel in london. I would be willing to bet that there were one or 2 that were tempted to rip the helmet off his head. Personally i just think he's a test driver. Awesome job he has though. Pippa
Damon Hill did an F1 lap in the Suzuki Liana though. Would that not disqualify him or was it all part of a cunning plan?

a while ago someone at a party told me that the stig is actually irish racing driver sarah kavanagh. dunno if its true, but it'd confound expectations on this most alpha of tv shows if their clutch grabbing hero was a heroine.

Well, We know that The Stig is refered to as "he", and I think that The Stig is also a constant, as opposed to a character who is different every week or so, because The stig is always said to be a good teacher, and it would jepoardise the statue race times if it was a diferent person every week.

If you go to youtube and search top gear, there is an interview by dutch tv that comes up in which the stig speaks!
It is not Damon Hill, But there are rumours floating around that it is a racing driver by the name of Ben Collins, who has appeared on the show (when the bloke parachutes into the back of the Merc)

The Stig is 5 different folks - male and female. The whole "Stig" identity thing is just done to keep up the interest. They have different roles so the same person can keep consistency for teaching the Star in the Reasonably Priced Car while other "Stigs" can do other varied appearances (the journeys in varied vehicles, etc.). Don't any of you folks know how TV works? It's all smoke and mirrors! I know some of their names (yes, I'm another of those sad folks who work in TV) but professional discretion keeps me from revealing them - yet! Also it's hard to see all of them for all this smoke...
